We are very happy with our results and going to Mexico was a great decision for us. We are both nurses, it was scary to think about surgery in another country but the care was fantastic. We are both down 50 pounds and would like to lose 25 more for sure!*

I wanted to send an update on my weight to Ms. Jamie who has been a tremendous help!! I've lost 65 pounds since my surgery on July 18, 2015. I went from a size 16 to a size 7. I'm happy to report that I'm medication free. I'm no longer on High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and no longer in danger of being on diabetic medication. I no longer have sleep apnea and no longer sleep with that dreaded CPAP machine at night. I want to thank BeLiteWeight and their staff for saving my life and giving my life back. I love me and that hasn't been the case in a very long time. I hated shopping prior to my weight loss now I can't stay out of the stores! Lol...I would like to lose about 10-15 more pounds to complete my goal. I've referred lots of friends and family to BeLiteWeight and I hope their journey is as wonderful as mine has been. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart for my new life.....*

I am a huge (much smaller) advocate of the surgery!  I feel amazing!  My bp is and cholesterol had reach normal levels within three weeks when I had lab work done*!

If you are considering this surgery, don't wait.  The only regret I have is waiting to make this decision.  I had an amazing experience in Juarez.  The staff was great and my recovery was easy.  Within three weeks of surgery, my blood pressure and cholesterol were normal for the first time in years!  Surgery was on July 17,2015.  My highest weight was 275 and I am now 195.  Down from a size 42 pants to a size 34 and XXlarge to a medium.  Thank you BeLiteWeight and Dr. Rodriguez!*

My surgery date was October 18, 2014. My goal was to lose 100 pounds. I am down 120 pounds. I enjoy such little things I didn't realize I couldn't do so well prior to my surgery. For example, cross my legs. I do not snore now. There are just tons of things that make me smile daily. I will never regret having my surgery. I do however wished I would have had it sooner. Jeff M - 1 Month Update*

As a nurse for twenty years, I know too well the tragedy of runaway diabetes and obesity. I had both. No matter what I did: diet, exercise, diet supplements, and just plain fear, all of my good intentions eventually imploded and I was once again packing on the pounds and watching my diabetes and weight soar out of reach. Eventually, I just wrote my will and resigned myself to my fate.

I had been aware that bariatric surgery could radically improve one's chances of limiting, or even putting diabetes into remission, but for all my knowledge and experience I was baffled where to begin. A phone call to BeLiteWeight and Nicky and Jamie smoothly clarified my options and helped me to understand which bariatric option would be best for me.

Then there was the scenario of having the surgery in Mexico. This was a better option for me, as I live next door to Juarez, but another weight loss agency described their surgeon's services as being done in a strip mall, with the recovery period taking place in a hotel room. Not good.

Again, BeLiteWeight gave me information about Star Medica, one of the finest hospitals in Juarez. I know a lot of people who are intimately connected with Juarez, and without exception, every single one highly recommended Star Medica. If there was any trouble, I would have found it. I was also somewhat relieved that Star Medica is the official hospital of choice by the U. S. Consulate in Juarez.

I had less than perfect credit because of the stock market debacle five years ago, and wondered how in the world I could afford to get this life saving surgery. My insurance considered it a "cosmetic procedure." Cosmetic my foot, literally. My diabetes was making its presence known.

Again, Nicky and Jamie efficiently steered me into a loan company who provided terms I could easily afford. The complications of getting into Mexico, and out? Jamie and Nicky made that super easy, as well.

Transportation: the shuttle was there right on time and whisked my wife and I smoothly to Star Medica's front door.

The hospital: I have worked in many hospitals throughout the United States. Star Medica was spotless and comfortable, the staff friendly and professional. I was processed in with remarkable speed and efficiency. The room was more like a pleasant suite, again spotless, comfortable and roomy.  I would gladly prefer to have any surgical procedure done at Star Medica over many of the hospitals I have worked in the United States.

The procedure: Again, it can be summed up as efficient in every way. They told me what they would do and when they would do it, and it went exactly on time very smoothly. Dr. Rodriguez came and met with us, and cordially answered all my questions in English.

The pain: there wasn't any. At worst I felt a little sore once it was done. The staff kept me well supplied with good pain and nausea medication, and I was up walking about the facility, doing my laps, within an hour of the procedure. Going to a dentist is much more difficult. I was back to work at the end of the week.

The surgical wounds: there was never a trace of infection. There was no bleeding. Dr. Rodriguez made the smallest of incisions and sealed them with Durabond and already, a month later, the small scars are beginning to fade.

Psychologically: Life after stomach. I was out the next morning following one day in the hospital. It is an adjustment to going from eating like a horse, as I did, to being only able to tolerate food in very small amounts. My brain says "EAT," and my stomach says, "NO THANKS." Each day gets a little easier. In the first week, I did have signifigant hunger pangs, but they are lessening daily. Every day gets easier to get my brain around eating just a little amount, and my tiny stomach feels more and more comfortable.

The weight loss: BeLiteWeight provided me with a comprehensive pre and post surgical eating plan. Lots of vitamin supplements. The pounds are melting off me like snow in July, and I don't have to fight it. I went from 265 pounds the day of surgery to 234 pounds in a month. My feet don't hurt so much. I can sleep on my side again, which I couldn't do because my obesity hurt my hips. My knees don't hurt so much. I can tie my shoes and getting in and out of a car isn't like trying to climb Mt. Everest any more. I have more energy.

My blood sugars are rapidly returning to almost normal. It is soon yet, but I have gone from using two hundred, or more, units of insulin every day, to using less than twenty, and some days not at all. It is too soon to predict the final outcome, but it strongly appears that my diabetes is going into remission.

Paying for it: No lie, I save so much on groceries and eating out that it is no trouble making payments. I still get to enjoy food, just in very small amounts.

The hope: Best of all I have hope for the future. I no longer wonder when my diabetes is going to ruin my life and my ability to support my family. I have hope for a long and healthy life to provide for my family. Bariatric surgery was the best decision I ever made, and BeLiteWeight helped me every step of the way. I cannot thank you enough for getting me over the hump.*

Very Best Regards,

Andre M - 1 Year Update*

I weighed three hundred and forty pounds. Yikes!

But thanks to the awesome patient advocates, nurses and doctors at BeLiteWeight, I am enthused to say that today I weighed in at 183.7 lbs.

Still some 15-20 lbs. from where I need to be, but a massive step in the right direction.

I liken it to a tectonic shift. A change in, not only, physique but perhaps even moreso, in mentality - a complete lifestyle overhaul. Of which, I could not be happier about!

I feel for the first time, I am able to live life to the fullest and thus look forward-to and plan for, the future. And the future is as bright as the noon sunlight!

For this, I am forever thankful to the people who made this all possible. Principally, my grandparents parents, friends and outlying family members, who have ALL supported me through this transition.

So here's to health! Here is to life!

And Thank you for what y'all have given me; As my sister, most aptly phrased it, a chance to hit the 'reset' button." *

Emily S - 1 Year Update*

"A year ago today I was waking up in a Mexican hospital, screaming for help, and had the worst chest pain ever. As the next 48 hours progressed and I was dismissed from the hospital I began to wonder what I had gotten myself into. I spent a night in a San Diego hotel and when woke up the next day I was thankful to be alive, ready to get on my flight home, and more than ready to kiss my baby. The last year hasn't been easy, it wasn't magic, and there were SO many tears cried.

I found a quote a few weeks ago that said, one day your workout will become your warmup.  It really inspired me as over the last few weeks the intensity of my workouts has really increased and I've really been pushing my body. A year ago at this time I wasn't even going to the gym, I was stressed with the ending of a relationship, preparing for this trip to Mexico, and wondering how I was to afford the life I so badly wanted in Colorado. At this time last year, I was working night shift and planning my diet for the first month after my surgery, planning my 25th birthday outfit because I KNEW I would be at 165 by then (hah). Over the last year I've realized I had/have a toxic relationship with food. I've learned that when I eat sugar, I want to eat more sugar, it makes me emotional and basically a psycho.

I've learned that it really was possible for my workout to become my warm up, and that there is much more satisfaction in burning/sore muscles than there is in frosting covered pumpkin shaped sugar cookies. I've realized that realistically I will NEVER weigh 165 lbs (I haven't been that weight since probably 3rd grade). I've learned that I'd rather be able to go run a mile or 5 than be at a certain number on the scale. I've learned that this journey won't ever be over, that this is something that I'm going to have to work on for the rest of my life. I've learned that not every day is perfect and that somedays you'll eat that cookie, and not go to the gym, and that you'll want snacks all day, but I've also learned that tomorrow is a new day.

In the last year I've gone from Size 26 to a size 16 (which by the way is official plus size model size (sign me up). Size 5x scrubs to size L (depending on style). I've lost fat, friends, inches, love, but I've gained so much more. I've gained knowledge, healthy friendships, a better relationship with food, techniques that will make this a lifestyle, but most importantly gained myself. I gained the girl who I so desperately fought to be. The girl who can say NO, the one who can fight for what she believes in, and most importantly the one who knows what she NEEDS the most in this life. Here's to the girl whose wardrobe became workout clothes, the one who ate a significantly less amount of cookies in the last 365 days, the one who is still pushing, and the one who isn't going to stop.

UPDATE:  I am now training for a triathlon that is In January. Weight is just a number and this journey has become about so much more than appearing thin. I can't thank you guys enough for my life back."

Deb K. - 4 Days Post Surgery*

Four days since surgery on Sept.29th, 2015. I'm feeling really good!  The experience in Mexico was unbelievable.  Don't ever let anyone scare you or tell you that it is unsafe to go the the Hospital Angeles in Juarez Mexico for any type of surgery.  The facility was gorgeous.  It was like a 4 star hotel.  Beautifully designed, immaculately clean and the staff was amazing.  I have never received care in America like I did in Mexico.

The nurses were kind and respectful.  They never entered your room without knocking and waiting for you to allow them in, the rest of the staff came in at least 2-3 times a day to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.  They even offered to have food delivered from any restaurant in town for my husband is he so desired. The language barrier was a bit of a problem but the new translator apps work really well!   The Doctors..... I can't say enough.  They visited me regularly, kept me informed and the day of surgery they came in the morning, told me my surgery would be around noon and sure enough at 11:55am - they came to take me.

The surgery process was painless. Considering all of the old scar tissue and old remnant stomach that had to be removed,  I have had minimal pain since.  Just some discomfort from where the drain was placed for 2 days and the gas which is normal.  I am home now and following my post-op diet exactly as ordered.  I went for a walk this morning and will go for a couple more throughout the day. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!!!!!!!!   I'm actually on my way to my new healthy life!  Oh, and by the way..... I'm already down 5 more lbs in the last 4 days!!  I'll be sending some before and after pictures around 3 months out. GIVE YOURSELF THE EXPERIENCE AND LIFE YOU DESERVE - HAVE THIS DONE WITH BELITEWEIGHT!!*

Tammy W - 1 Year Update*

I just wanted to take a moment and update you on my progress since today is the one year anniversary of my new life! To date, I have lost a total of 117.6 pounds and I am still losing. It has slowed some, as expected, but I continue to lose. I started this journey with a BMI of 51.2 which was in the morbidly obese range. I am happy to say, as of today, I am just overweight with a BMI of 28.3 I would say that is a huge win.

What's even better is looking back at how I have actually LIVED life over the past year. I went on a mission trip to Honduras in June and didn't huff and puff my way through the mission field. What a WIN! I participated in numerous 5K walk/runs over the summer and even recently completed a half marathon. What a WIN! My husband had the surgery in May and he has lost 99 pounds as of today. We went to Tennessee on vacation last month and hiked our butts off! We also went zip-lining and horseback riding for the first time which, wasn't possible last year due to us being over the weight limit for those activities.

It was funny, when the guy was checking us in for zip lining, he asked us to step on the scale and I said, "uh oh!" He laughed at us and said, "No worries, you are both WAY under the weight limit!" I wanted to tell him you have no idea how great that makes me feel but he wouldn't have understood the journey I'm sure. Again...What a WIN!!! To end this year with a bang, I will be leaving on October 28, to hike the Havasu Falls area on the south rim of the Grand Canyon! HUGE WIN!!!*

Carlisle B - Letter Regarding Juarez*

I would like to take this opportunity to tell anyone who is considering gastric bypass or the gastric sleeve, that Dr. Elmo Aramburo and his team at Star Medica in Juarez were absolutely wonderful. I will admit I was skeptical at first, and I was extremely nervous about making the journey to Mexico. A location I had never been to before, but I was treated with the utmost respect from the doctors and the nursing staff.

I have been home for six weeks now and have lost 32lbs! My only regret is not having this done sooner! I come from a long family of medical professionals and was told by family and friends not to go, but ultimately the choice was mine, and I am so glad that I went ahead and made the choice to have the gastric sleeve. I feel like a new person! Anyone who has any doubts, I can assure you the treatment you will receive will be very professional and caring. Thank you again to the team at Star Medica!*

Justin A - 6 Month Update*

Starting Weight 385 Current Weight 228 This has been the hardest thing that I have ever done in my life. I ended up getting a bleeding ulcer that put me in the hospital for almost 2 weeks since they did not know where the blood was coming from. Once I got that all figured out i have struggled with passing out due to dehydration and lack of nutrition. A lot of food that I should be able to eat I can't so I am still dealing with that. I have good days and bad. The doctors here did say that it was nothing that the surgeons did wrong I just have bad luck.

I am very happy with the weight loss and in such a short time and think that these other issues will go away. I have been asked over and over if I would do it again and I say that I would have no problem going back to the same surgeons. I have also said to many people that ask about it that if they are going to go through with it to look into going to the same place. I get huge compliments on a daily basis. I say do it for you and no one else. Go for it.

It's been exactly 460 days since my journey began. On June 14, 2014, I entered Star Medica at 442 lbs. YIKES!!! Today, I'm hanging at 240 lbs and still losing in small increments. If not for some minor excess skin, I estimate that I'd be 215-220. That's a minute, insignificant price to pay for how I feel. The day I had surgery, I was in a 56 waist and 5xl shirt. Today, I'm in 36-38 pants and l-xl shirts. Also, I was wearing a 64 suit jacket. I'm now wearing a 46. Included is a very cheesy, yet fun, casual pic of me now. Everytime someone asks me about beliteweight my response is simple. "Look at me." *

Jeff T - 4 Month Update*

I bet I feel even better than the picture could ever show. I have lost right about 120lbs from pre-surgery diet until today! The hospital was completely amazing. Star-Medica is a place that US hospitals should strive to match in both appearance and professionalism. The place is gorgeous and you feel very comfortable the minute you walk in the doors.  It is furnished well and it is sparkling clean..

Dr. Rodriguez and his associates, including the anesthesiologist, are super friendly and took lots of time to calm my nerves and answer all of my questions. I had never had surgery before so I was a nervous wreck.  Dr. Rodriguez checked on my twice the night of surgery and then daily after.  I also saw one of his associate surgeons daily in addition to his nutritionist who came daily to talk to me about lifestyle changes moving forward. They were all amazing. I have already sent two of my close friends for surgery and a third recently paid her deposit.

The length of stay was perfect in my opinion. I'm a busy body and any more time down would have been hard. I was off pain medicine at noon the day after my surgery, so I spent a lot of time walking the halls and watching television.  I was ready to go home and was pain free when I left..  I did not spend one penny more than I was originally quoted.  I was actually impressed. I was honestly afraid of there being a shake down when I got there for more money. That was not the case at all. The admissions team at the hospital was ready for my arrival and processed all of my paperwork quickly and I paid my balance with a cashiers check. . Not only did I feel safe in Juarez, I have considered traveling back to El Paso to visit again. I feel like it would be a neat city to take some time to explore.

I think the only surprise that I have encountered is how quickly I have lost weight and how good I felt immediately. I can eat nearly anything I want now, but small small doses. I watch what I eat and I take my supplements and honestly I feel great.  I don't suffer from insomnia anymore nor do I feel exhausted all day long. I was a size 52" waist and now I'm in a 38. That's the biggest surprise. I would not only do it again, but I wouldn't wait until I was 37 to do it. I realize how much of my life I have missed and quite frankly, it's sad.  I am a huge supporter of the surgery and know that it's a blessing. If you're ready for the long term changes, I think you'll do well.  The hardest part of the entire journey was learning that food isn't fun or delicious, it's merely something that I need a couple of times a day for survival.  There are times that I see someone eating something that I want, and I want to tackle them and steal it, but it passes quickly. You'll find things that will help you forget about food. My secret is my Yeti tumbler. It keeps ice cold water with me all day. If I feel the need to munch, I drink some cold water and it fills me up really quickly and I move on.

There are lots of horror stories I read, especially while on the plane headed to El Paso. I was scared.  It made me decide to commit to the post surgical diet and the changes to my lifestyle. I now walk every day. I bought a FitBit to monitor my physical activity and I try to do a little more each day than the day before. I compete with myself. It's great. My doctor here local is impressed with the results and is shocked at how much I have lost without any negative side effects. I have had no hair loss, all of my blood work looks great and I feel amazing. *

I have been very happy with the results from my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I had a lap band for 3 years but had to have it removed when I had peritonitis (not related to the band). I of course gained back 40 pounds very quickly and decided that I had to do something. I was never extremely obese, but I was overweight. My goal was to go from 200 pounds to 140. I was back up to 180 when I had my VSG with Dr. Jose Rodriguez & Dr. Elmo Aramburo.

I have actually had three experiences with surgery in Mexico. The first time was in Monterrey, where I had my lap band placed. I was very satisfied with the surgeon, care, and facility. I was pretty happy with the lap band and lost weight. I sometimes had food get stuck, and getting fills was kind of inconvenient, but it was OK.

The second time I went to Mexico, it was in Cancun. I was scheduled to have the sleeve done with a doctor there. As it turned out, I ended up not having the surgery. The doctor there started the surgery and then decided he didn't want to do it because I had scar tissue. To make matters worse, he told me that I wouldn't get any refund. It was a horror. All I had to show for my air fare, hotel, time off, and money ($6,500.00) was a 1 inch scar. So I was definitely nervous about trying Mexico again.

I am so glad I went through with the surgery. My experience with BeLiteWeight was seamless from beginning to end. When I first inquired about the surgery and explained my fears from my recent trip, JoAnne called me and asked me about all of my concerns. She got answers to all of my questions and called me back.

I was also concerned about the scar tissue I had from previous surgery, and she was kind enough to forward my medical records and pictures from my endoscopy to Dr. Rodriguez who looked at them and assured me that he would be able to do the surgery. Dr. Rodriguez even called me to make sure that all of my questions were answered. This was all before I even scheduled the surgery. Because of my prior bad experience with the other surgeon, JoAnne gave me in writing a contract that said how much it would cost if I went for surgery and it couldn't be performed.

I went to Juarez in July of 2011 for the surgery. My husband went with me. He is a surgeon and if things didn't look on the up and up, he would have canceled the surgery. I arrived at the airport and was picked up promptly by a driver for BeLiteWeight. We were taken to the hospital (which is very safe and secure) and checked in. They were expecting all of us so the check in went quickly. I was taken to my room, which was nicer than any room in any facility I have seen in the US. It was quite clean and modern.

I arrived on a Friday in the afternoon. I was seen by a psychologist, nutritionist, anesthesiologist, was given a history and physical, EKG, and lab work to make sure that I was safe for surgery. I went down later that day and had my procedure, which went well. Needless to say, it was a success. I was sore after, but it went away pretty fast. I actually left on Sunday, a day early and returned to work on Monday. Before I left the hospital in Juarez, they did a scan to make sure that there were no leaks in my suture line.

Since my surgery I have not had to have any follow up. Dr. Rodriguez was actually kind enough to clean up some of the massive scar tissue I had which really reduced the pain I had from before the surgery. I steadily lost weight and reached my goal weight of 140.* I was up to 200 before Weight Loss surgery, which may not seem like a lot to some people, but I went from a size 16 (really tight) to a size 4.*

I would do it again in a heart beat. I have been quite happy with the Gastric Sleeve. I wish that I would have had the sleeve to start with now. The band is good too though. My sister and brother both have a band and have both lost over 100 pounds.

Even though it has been a year and a half, I still can't believe how good I look and feel. I have been to my PCP and GYN for annual check ups, and everything is great. My cholesterol went down to 170*. I wear a smaller size now than I did in high school.*

It isn't often you can say that you got what you paid for with no problems, but I do think that I got what I paid for and more with this surgery and the services provided by BeLiteWeight.*

I am doing GREAT!!! My surgery was the end of December 2014 and in the 7 1/2 months I have lost 70 pounds and am 5 pounds to get to goal. The surgery has changed my life. I eat anything I want--just not very much of it but I eat 4-5 times a day. I just had my yearly wellness exam and the doctor sat there with a HUGH grin. My cholesterol is down 67 points, I am not needing my CPAP machine, and I am off my arthritis meds. 75 and don't look it! YEAH!!!* - Leona

Joe and Traci G - 6 Month Update*

Well, we have officially reached 200 lbs lost between the 2 of us. I had surgery Jan 2015, he had surgery Feb 2015.

We are beyond excited about this! It's been a great journey. I've heard several say it's the easy way out, well it's not the easy way out at all. It's a process. It takes decision, dedication, and it takes perseverance.

This weight loss journey started out with me being obsessed about calories, but we have learned that it is so much more than that. It's calories, carbs, protein, exercise, and even more than that. It has changed our whole lives!!!! It's a change that we have embraced. It's a journey that I would not have wanted to do with anyone else. Still a little ways to go, but we've got this!!! No regrets!!

Dr. Rod and Dr. Elmo along with the rest of the staff at Star Medica were wonderful. The hospital is very clean and everyone is very nice. At no point did we feel like we were not safe there. Teri, our coordinator, was very informative. She made the process very simple for us!

We are very thankful for Belite Weight and what it has allowed us to accomplish. We have tried other things, but this has proven to be the best ever!!

Again, thank you. We will keep y'all posted as we reach our 1 year mark.*

Sincerely,

Joe C. and Tracie G
Thanks!

This was the best decision I have ever made. The biggest thing that I have gained from this experience was not the weight loss, or physically feeling better, it was the huge boost in confidence and self worth that I have gained from this process. My starting weight was 343lbs, I am now 224lbs. I feel great, I look great, I am trying new things, I am getting out of my comfort zone, life keeps getting better everyday. *

I would recommend this procedure to anyone! This is the best decision I have made for myself. Learning how to eat again is definitely a mind game but as long as you make sure and eat your protein and vegetables first, there isn't room for anything else! I have already lost 74.5 pounds and am only 33 pounds away from my goal weight. I feel amazing! My A1c numbers are back in order and my cholesterol is now back in a normal range. As for having the surgery in Mexico, I was nervous but because of the referral list and the testimonials of people I could follow I put my trust in Beliteweight and I was not let down.

We were picked up from the airport and taken straight to the hospital, there was someone at check-in to help translate and get us all set up in our room. My surgery was scheduled the same day as arrival and I was prepped and taken back very quickly. The surgery went well with no complications. Dr.  Rodriguez and Dr. Elmo both came and checked on me before and after the surgery in my room and explained everything to me. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days after surgery and traveled back home to Washington. I really had very little pain during recovery and only took the pain medications for the first couple of days when I got home.  I started my weight loss journey in a size 16 jeans the picture I've included is in my new size EIGHT jeans!!!*

down 83 lbs, my old Army uniform now fits again, and I climbed Long’s Peak in CO (14,000’) something that would have been impossible a year ago.  BTW, when you hike and climb for 9 hours, you burn 6000 calories…no wonder those people are so skinny ;-)*
