Drinking water is great, but there are other options for making refreshing beverages that are not only fun for the summer, but very beneficial to your health.

5 Low-Carb Dieting Mistakes

lowcarbcover

Middle of January is dieting season! As more and more eating regiments are being constructed for 2017 unfortunately many people are falsely informed regarding the benefits of lowering their carbs. The BeLiteWeight team has put together five simple pieces of advice to hopefully help others avoid the common pitfalls of low carb dieting. Now is the time to diet succesffully!

1. Not Enough Fat

peanuts-3-1324554-1279x852

It is a very unfortunate myth that a low fat diet helps shed weight when in actuality fats are one of the most important parts of your diet because they make you feel full without packing on the weight!

2. Not Enough Vegetables

vegetables-basket-1460409-1280x960

It is far too easy to neglect eating vegetables however they are your bodies most healthy fuel! Eating vegetables will help keep you feeling full without processed carbohydrates!

3. Low Carb Does Not Mean No Carbs

9-and-0-1165172-1279x788 Despite what you may think the human body needs carbohydrates to function! Rather then cutting all the carbs from your diet  learn to portion and time them for true success.

4. Don't Give Up Too Early

hand-1-1542203-1279x958

Limiting your bodies carbohydrate intake will make you feel different and that is completely normal! Avoid the impulse to run to those potato chips the moment you are hungry and choose some healthy fat!

5. Drink More Water!

water-1329546-1279x852

Water is your best friend! Drinking water will not only make you less thirsty but it fills up your stomach curbing your hunger and making you feel full!

How to Start Working Out: First Steps

howtostartworkingout       Happy new years from the BeLiteWeight team! As we begin the new year many of us are contemplating a shift in our lifestyles towards a more healthy and active balance but don't even know where to begin. Our team is here to help! Here are four very important tips to remember that will hopefully help push you through those first few weeks!

Choose Your Motivation First

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The first thing you need to do is ask yourself why you want to make this lifestyle change. For most people this is as simple as wanting to lose weight and be a healthy functioning person. Once this reason is clear to you don't lose your focus! If you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel how are you going to get there!

Realize Improvement is Dynamic

waves-1216356-1277x503       The way the body responds to working out is scattered and varies from person to person. Often progress is delayed in the beginning, picks up very quickly, and is delayed again after sustained progress. Don’t stop in any of these situations!

Don't Rush, Start Slow!

slow-1195454-639x423

It happens all too often that people begin an exercise routine and in less than two weeks they have strained a few different muscles all over their body. Start off your lifestyle transition really slow. This means walking low distances and stretching slowly as well. Trying to rush will always hold you back in the end.

Always Do What You Feel Like

beach-1404880-639x424       Some days your body is just tired. It may not have the right nutrients. It may have worked harder the day before. Sometimes there is no reason. If you aren’t feeling up to it there is a reason your body feels that way and you should be focusing on changing that.. Rest and recovery is just part of the cycle. But if you feel like getting up and going out for a walk, just go do it! Sometimes the only thing stopping you is you!

snacking-tips-cover

#1 – MINIMIZE PROCESSED CARBS!

Various protein cocktails

Processed Carbohydrates are absolutely detrimental to your weight loss regime for so many reasons! Simple processed carbs spike insulin levels and increase the risk of diabetes and a number of other diseases. They are also quickly converted by the body in to excess fat. Processed and poor quality carbs such as potato chips are damaging as well.

#2 – MAXIMIZE PROTEIN & GOOD FATS

weight loss tips surgery protein low carb gastric surery bypass sleeve

Your body NEEDS healthy fats and protein to work properly! Healthy fats ensure proper fuctionality of your organs and proteins are used to properly recovery of your bodily systems and maintain lean muscle mass. They make you feel full too!

#3 – DON’T EAT FAST, TAKE BREAKS!

Remember that your stomache pouch has been changed and is now smaller. Give your food time to digest so it will stay down and not go back up! But also be mindful of oversnacking the wrong foods.

#4 – ALWAYS STAY HYDRATED

weight losss surgery before after tips sugar carbs

Your body is made up of more than 60 percent water! Drinking it curbs hunger and gives you energy so be sure to replace your hydration often!

Potential Trigger Foods After Weight Loss Surgery

triggerfoods

After having weight loss surgery the digestive system of the body is altered and its response to the same food you have always eaten may change. Although each surgery is unique, and each body responds to different foods in their own way, these are the certain foods groups that BeLiteWeight recommends caution. Feel free to try each of them out and test them, but be careful! Don't eat too much or too fast, and always remember to chew thoroughly!

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 1. Bread

Bread can expand when in contact with different liquids and chemicals in your stomache. You may want to forgo the bread basket when eating out. Save room for your meal!

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 2. Apple Skins

Apple skins are hard to fully chew potentially causing problems with the stomaches digestion and issues smoothly going down.

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 3. Chicken

It is very easy for chicken to be too dry! Make sure your chicken is very moist, maybe with a sauce, and be sure to be chew it thoroughly.

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 4. Pasta

As with bread,  pasta can easily absorb liquids and expand. It is also easy to take too big of a bite which can cause the uncomfortable "stuck" feeling.

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 5. Liquid Calories & Ice Cream

These are the worst possible food after weight loss surgery! Sugary liquids sneak their way down to your stomache without much discomfort and quickly start packing on weight!

bad food after weight loss surgery vsg bariatric bypass gastric band lap sleeve mini bypass vsg apple rice bread pasta chicken liquid calories ice cream 6. Rice

Much like bread and pasta rice can expand a lot. Just be careful and don't eat too much or too fast!

Many of these foods are high in carbohydrates which takes up room in your stomache causing you to not be able to eat the protein rich foods that you need for your hair, muscles, and bodily functions. Focus on your protein first and then just a couple of bites of carbs.

The Best Thing: Maria & Eduardo’s Sleeves

weight loss surgery before after vsg bariatric eduardo and maria

Eduardo & Maria both had Dr. Rodriguez-Villareal and Dr. Elmo Aramburo perform Gastric Sleeve Procedures with BeLiteWeight less than a year ago and have truly hit the ground running. Here is their experience thus far in their own words!

Here's a bit about our weight loss journey, this is the best thing both Eduardo and I could have done. So blessed and happy that we were able to do it together. We both had the gastric sleeve on November 9, 2015 by Dr. Rod and Dr. Elmo at Star Medica. Both doctors, the staff and the hospital were great!

We are super excited to say that we are right about 9 months from having surgery and we are down a total of  222 lbs between the both of us. Eduardo is down 135 lbs and I am down 87 lbs, we are so happy with our results so far! After trying different ways to lose weight for years and nothing working, we realized this was our only option left. Again I can't express how grateful I am that we decided to do this together at a Team!!

We are very thankful for BeLiteWeight, because of them we are a lot healthier now than before. Even though we still more to go and at times our weight loss slows down we knew that sooner or later we will be where we want to be at.
