Potential Trigger Foods After Weight Loss Surgery

After having weight loss surgery the digestive system of the body is altered and its response to the same food you have always eaten may change. Although each surgery is unique, and each body responds to different foods in their own way, these are the certain foods groups that BeLiteWeight recommends caution. Feel free to try each of them out and test them, but be careful! Don't eat too much or too fast, and always remember to chew thoroughly!

Bread can expand when in contact with different liquids and chemicals in your stomache. You may want to forgo the bread basket when eating out. Save room for your meal!

Apple skins are hard to fully chew potentially causing problems with the stomaches digestion and issues smoothly going down.

It is very easy for chicken to be too dry! Make sure your chicken is very moist, maybe with a sauce, and be sure to be chew it thoroughly.

As with bread,  pasta can easily absorb liquids and expand. It is also easy to take too big of a bite which can cause the uncomfortable "stuck" feeling.

These are the worst possible food after weight loss surgery! Sugary liquids sneak their way down to your stomache without much discomfort and quickly start packing on weight!

Much like bread and pasta rice can expand a lot. Just be careful and don't eat too much or too fast!

Many of these foods are high in carbohydrates which takes up room in your stomache causing you to not be able to eat the protein rich foods that you need for your hair, muscles, and bodily functions. Focus on your protein first and then just a couple of bites of carbs.

Dangers of Simple Carbohydrates For Pre Diabetics

simpel carbs white rice glycemic index load unhealthy diabetics yams health carbohydrates protein weight loss If you are diabetic, pre diabetic, or even just concerned about your body composition, simple carbohydrates can be very dangerous for your blood sugar and body fat storages. This is because “Simple Carbs” are made up of only one or two sugar molecules making them very easy for the body to break down in to your bloodstream. These simple carbs are found in processed foods such as bread, pasta, white flour, soda, & sweets, but and also in fruits and vegetables as well. simple carbs white rice glycemic index load unhealthy diabetics yams health carbohydrates protein weight loss

The rate at which sources of simple carbs affect your blood sugar is measured by a system known as the glycemic index (GI). This number is multiplied by the serving quantity for a measurement known as the foods glycemic load(GL). Foods with either high GI’s or GL are known to spike blood sugar levels and should be avoided by diabetics, pre-diabetics, and probably everyone else too. It is also best to eat a variety and not be excessive with one food or source of carbohydrates.

Popular Foods With High Glycemic Index / Loads

White Bagel – 72 / 25

Fanta Soft Drink – 68 / 23

Sweetened Cranberry Juice – 68 / 24

Instant Sweetened Oatmeal – 83 / 30

Foods with high rates of absorption quickly pass through the bodies digestive systems and are stored as fat for future energy. Therefore, it is of no surprise that those with high Glycemic Indec (GI) and Glycemic Load (GL) diets have been found to be at much higher risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Fortunately, there are many dietary studies that have found low Glycemic Indec (GI) and Glycemic Load (GL) diets provide substantial weight loss and glycemic control benefits. Patients of bariatric surgery tend to feel full without the need of excessive carbohydrates which can be a remarkable tool from those suffering from terrible simple carbohydrate food cravings. It may be hard to stay away from processed foods with simple sugars, but your body will thank you for it!

Coat baking sheet with cooking spray or oil and season as desired

Cook between 350 and 450 degrees for 7 to 10 minutes per inch of thickness.

No need to flip the fish, just bake and enjoy!

Warm up a charcoal grill for 30 minutes, and a gas grill for 10 minutes on high.

Lightly oil the fish with olive or canola oil so it won’t stick to the grill.

Direct heat: Cook between 375 and 425 degrees for 4-6 minutes on each side per inch of thickness.

Indirect heat: Cook on the cool side of the grill for 15 minutes. Can be done after direct heat.

Best for firm fish like halibut and salmon

Barely cover the fish in wine or dressing and simmer on medium heat.

Cook fillets for 8-10 minutes and full fish for 15-20 minutes.

Optional: Use the poaching liquid as a base for a sauce.

Kale: 7 Science Backed Benefits

kale health benefits eating helathy diet green vegetables

Kale is considered the king of healthy greens. This leafy vegetable is among the healthiest and most nutritious dense foods in existence placing it in the class of a ‘superfood’

This super green leaf is loaded with all sorts of beneficial compounds. Here are 7 science supported benefits:

1. Extremely Low in Calories: A single cup of kale contains only 33 calories, 6 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of protein!

Kale also contains very little fat, but a large portion of the fat is in form of a healthy omega-3 fatty acid called alpha linolenic acid.

2. King of Anti-Oxidants: Kale is rich in anti-oxidants. Antioxidants are substances that help counteract oxidative damage by free radicals in the body.

This allows kale to be cardio-protective, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, anti-depression issues, and fight cancer!

3. Lowers Cholesterol and the Risk of Heart Disease: Cholesterol plays an important role in the body’s ability to make bile acids, which are substances that help us digest fats.

Kale contains bile acid sequestrants, which lowers cholesterol levels and leads to a reduced risk of heart disease over time.

4. Best Sources of Vitamin K: Vitamin K is an important nutrient. It is absolutely critical for blood clotting because of “activating” certain proteins that bind calcium.

Kale is one of the world’s best sources of vitamin K, with a single raw cup containing almost 7 times the recommended daily amount.

5. Powerful Cancer Fighter: Kale is heavily loaded with compounds that fight against cancer.

It is rich in sulforaphane, a substance that science has been shown to help fight the formation of cancer at the molecular level.

6. Excellent Source of Minerals:  A single cup of raw kale Vitamin A (from beta-carotene), Vitamin K, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Manganese, Calcium, Copper, Potassium, Magnesium etc.

Kale is an excellent source of magnesium and potassium. Magnesium is effective against type 2-diabetes and heart disease while potassium reduces blood pressure and lower the risk of heart disease as well.

7. Rich in Lutein and Zeaxanthin: Lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoid antioxidants that are found in large amounts in kale.

These two nutrients protect the body from oxidative stress! If you have not made kale a part of your diet yet, get started now!

Eat Thin: Crispy, Zucchini Chips

Want to make your own healthy snacks, but don’t know where to begin or which recipes are the best? Here’s one that will surely make you crave more without all the added fat, sugar, and other bad things that can be found in normal snacks and junk foods like potato chips. In fact, these are a completely different kind of chip.

This recipe calls for zucchini and turning them into thin, crunchy, and tasty chips that happen to be a great alternative to other junk food cravings. You can make a big batch for the entire family to try. All it takes is about two hours to make these zucchini chips.

Zucchini Chips|BeLite Weight|Weight Loss Recipe

Here are all the ingredients you will need. These measurements will make about fifty or so zucchini chips.

  • One large zucchini
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Kosher salt

And here’s how to make these super easy and healthy zucchini chips:

  • First preheat your oven to approximately 225 degrees. Next take two large baking sheets and begin lining them with parchment paper or other nonstick baking paper.
  • Then slice the zucchini. It is best if you use a mandolin in order to achieve the best thinness as a mandolin is going to have different settings, but it isn’t required. Once you have thinly sliced your zucchini, place all the slices on a paper towel or multiple paper towels if they all don’t fit together, and press them in between another sheet of paper towel. This will draw out moisture and help them cook quicker.
  • Begin lining up all the zucchini slices on the baking sheets row by row, make sure that none of the slices are overlapping or they won’t cook properly.
  • Have your olive oil in a small bowl and use a pastry or grilling brush to lightly brush the olive oil on the zucchini slices. You only need a little bit.
  • Finally sprinkle the salt on the slices and bake for about two hours until they start to brown and are crispy, not soggy.
