Confidence to follow my dreams and the well power to keep going. I have been able to maintain an average of 105lbs lost and have gained about 15 safely . Candy’s Mini-Bypass: A Skydiving Adventure

Candy N watermark1

Our team at BeLiteWeight is always happy to hear about the success of our patients! There is nothing better for us than to learn about how much having surgery has changed their lives for the better. We are excited to share about our wonderful patient Candy, who was able to have the adventure of her life after getting a mini gastric bypass.

Candy was kind enough to share her story with us! t before

I had the mini gastric bypass, it was an easy surgery.  The hospital in Juarez was clean and professional.  It was nice to stay in the hospital and they accommodated my son who accompanied me on this journey, instead of being shipped off to a hotel, like a lot of other weight loss services in Mexico.
My life today, 15 months after gastric bypass is a complete 360 degree change.  I do not know who that person is anymore in the before picture.  I only know the person I have become after weight loss surgery, I walk, bike, workout, including kickboxing to say fit and get toned.  Even though my stomach controls how much food I can eat.  I still really watch what I eat.  Clean, organic food, very rarely any processed food or food with refined sugars.  Don 't get me wrong I still par-take in some of my favorite junk food, but to tell the truth, it does not taste the same, when I do take a bite or two.  I would rather eat an apple or have a protein shake (Herbal Life has great shakes, it is my daily breakfast)!

About three months after the surgery and down about 50 lbs., I hit a plateau for about 3 weeks, but from what I have read it is normal.  I decided it was time to start working out, as this surgery is a tool, not a cure.  Now, I workout on a regular basis and sometimes to much, as my addiction to food and changed to my addiction to workout and eat right.  I really enjoy working out, walking, just got a new 3 speed bike cruiser, I joined a kickboxing gym and I actually just SKYDIVED for the first time in my life.  It was worth the wait to lose all my weight for the SKYDIVING ADVENTURE.
I am so glad that I had weight loss surgery, my life had definitely improved and I feel I will live longer, side note, been off high blood pressure medication for over 6 months.

That is my story!

Lap Band, Gastric Sleeve, Bypass: A History of Weight Loss Surgery

hitosry of weight loss surgery wls vertical gastric sleeve bypass lap band

The beginning experiments of weight loss surgery in the United States began in the 1960s with the malabsorptive operation known as the Jejunoileal bypass, but it wasn't until 1994 when Dr.'s Wittgrove and Clark began their work with laparoscopic technology that cosmetically viable options became available and the procedures grew in popularity. More than 13 years ago now, in 2004 BeLiteWeight began servicing their first patients as weight loss surgery began growing in popularity. Since then the BeLiteWeight team has facilitated more than 15 thousand successfully Banded, Sleeved, or Bypassed patients. The first few years of BeLiteWeight's history medical professionals recommended an operation known as the Lap Band that has since been discovered to have a relatively large amount of complications when compared to the more modern Gastric Sleeve or even the Gastric Bypass.

Lap-Band-Gastric-Band

The surgical weight loss option known as the lap band is considered a restrictive procedure because it places a foreign object in stomach around the food pouch and limits the amount of food that can "slide" through the stomach at one time. Unfortunately, with BeLiteWeight's long history of accomodating patients for weight loss surgery, our team can verify the high rate of long term complications with this surgery. Beginning as early as 3 years the plastic "band" in the stomach nearly always gets dislodged and rejected by the body causing the surgery to be reversed. Fortunately, the other surgical options available to those looking to lose weight have proven with time to be much more reliable without any of these long-term complications. Both the Vertical Sleeve and the Gastric Bypass illustrated below have been advocated for by medical professionals for nearly 10 years with a substantial amounts of success. The long term effects of the Mini Bypass or the Reux-En-Y Gastric Bypass  are better for combating diabetes than the Gastric Sleeve. Studies have shown the beneficial diabetic effect of the Gastric Sleeve comes with weight loss while the effects on diabetes for the Gastric Bypass are quick and sometimes even instantaneous.

Gastric Sleeve & Bypass: Quick Facts

weight loss surgery vsg vertical gastric sleeve bypass quick facts bariatric

The exceptional medical benefits of the Gastric Sleeve and Bypass for the moderately overweight and obese have been shown through the lives of our patients time and time again! Here are some quick facts about each:

Vertical Gastric Sleeve Quick Facts:

1. The Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, abbreviated VSG and commonly known as the Gastric Sleeve, is BeLiteWeight's most commonly chosen procedure and is both less physically invasive and generally less costly than the Roux-en-Y Bypass.

2. The VSG is a "restrictive" operation in which approximately 80 percent of the stomache is removed. This results in less amounts of food providing the satisfaction of being full.

3. The Gastric Sleeve is not "malabsorptive" and is a simpler operation compared with the Gastric Bypass. This is because the VSG does not involve any "rerouting" or reconnecting of the intestines.

4. An additional advantage of the Gastric Sleeve is its effect to limit the production of a gut hormone called "Ghrelin" which controls appetite.  Interest in food is profoundly diminished afterwards.

roux-en-y roux en y gastric bypass bariatric weight loss surgery diagram visual Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Quick Facts:

1. The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, also known as simply the Gastric Bypass, is BeLiteWeight's second most popular option but is more costly and invasive than the VSG.

2. The Bypass is both "restrictive" and "malabsorptive" in that it both makes the stomach physically smaller and reroutes food through the intestines bypassing the stomach.

3. Since the Gastric Bypass is "malabsorptive" not all of the food eaten is fully absorbed by the body. This greatly accelerates weight loss and provides very fast results.

4. For longer term diabetic patients and those with heartburn or acid reflux disease Gastric Bypass may be a better option to put these illnesses back in to remission.

Professional Weight Loser: Tonia’s One Year Sleeve Success

gastric sleeve 1 year 12 months before and after vsg weight loss beliteweight bypass gastric bariatric

BeLiteWeight is so proud to share the outstanding one year story of our Gastric Sleeve patient Tonia! Her story and photos are truly incredible:

Today marks one year since my gastric sleeve surgery in Tijuana.  Having any type of surgery is a pretty big deal and this was no different.  However, after researching through the BeLiteWeight website, talking with Sylvia from the company, and researching on my own there was no doubt that undergoing either bypass or sleeve surgery was going to be the best decision for me.  Like so many people, I am a professional weight loser.  I have lost hundreds, but also gained back hundreds over the years.  Although there have been some bumps in the road, I still believe it was the best decision for me.  I continue my journey in finding what foods work best for me, the amount of sugar that is ok before I start to feel nauseous but what someone with chronic low blood sugar needs, and how to get all the water in each day that my body needs combined with living in the middle of the desert.  I have invested in lots of very small food storage containers that I can divide meals into and freeze, and I suggest this to anyone as not to waste meals and help with portion control.  This has proved so helpful and easy for meals on the go.  I know that my life has changed forever.  I still am working on portion control when I’m not eating one of my frozen meals, still working on getting to a gym, but still loving shopping in the juniors section!  I am so happy to report that as of today I have gone from 280lbs to 146lbs/size 26 to a size 8.  Thank you BeLiteWeight!        Tonia R – Phoenix, AZ
