{"id":5222,"date":"2014-11-12T07:00:40","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T15:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliteweight.com\/blog\/?p=5222"},"modified":"2025-05-12T22:03:50","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T05:03:50","slug":"artificial-sweeteners-heavier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliteweight.com\/blog\/artificial-sweeteners-heavier\/","title":{"rendered":"Artificial Sweeteners = Heavier You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">Maybe table sugar got a raw deal after all.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">For a few decades, now, people trying to lose weight or live a healthy lifestyle have been avoiding table sugar at every turn, choosing instead products full of lower-calorie, supposedly-better-for-you artificial sweeteners.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">They came with too-good-to-be-true names like \u201cSugarTwin,\u201d Sweet\u2019N Low,\u201d \u201cSweet One\u201d and \u201cDiabetiSweet.\u201d They were supposed to make the foods you love to eat\u2014but know you probably shouldn\u2019t\u2014healthier. They were supposed to replace high-calorie table sugar and allow you to eat what you want and still lose or maintain your weight.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Artificial Sweetners|BeLite Weight\" title=\"Artificial Sweetners|BeLite Weight\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5225\" height=\"630\" src=\"http:\/\/www.beliteweight.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Artificial-Sweetners.jpg\" width=\"944\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">One problem: They don\u2019t work.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Study after study has clearly demonstrated that people who consume foods loaded with artificial sweeteners are actually doing more harm to their diets than good. In fact, the studies have shown that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Artificial sweeteners don\u2019s suppress your appetite, they actually fire it up, causing you to consume even more calories.<\/li>\n<li>Artificial sweeteners, which are designed to replace carbohydrates, actually increase your cravings for carbs.<\/li>\n<li>Artificial sweeteners stimulate your body\u2019s need to store fat, which leads to increased weight gain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"justify\">That\u2019s right: increased weight gain.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">So how can something that has been marketed as being so good for you actually be so bad for you? The answer comes down to chemistry. Your body knows how to handle natural table sugar. It is, after all, natural.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">But your body doesn\u2019t really know what to do with the chemicals used to make artificial sweeteners. So instead of just burning it up and getting rid of it, your body does a lot of things it wouldn\u2019t normally do\u2014like release a lot of insulin and leptin, two hormones that play a big role in making you feel full and regulating your body\u2019s ability and need to store fat. Artificial sweeteners also cause your body to release large doses of phenylalanine into your body, which can cause you to feel hungry even if you\u2019re not.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">So skip the artificial sweeteners and eat regular table sugar instead.
