Too many people do not exercise because they believe that working out must equal long hours spent at the gym putting yourself through excruciating pain. However the benefits of just stepping outside your front door and leaving your home for a few minutes are staggering! Here are just a few reasons to walk more!
#1 – Greater Benefit for Obese
For those struggling with obesity these effects are even more amplified! At a power-walking speed of 4.5 miles per hour a 185 lb person would burn about 65 more calories per hour than a 155 lb person!
#2 – It’s Easy!
While walking may be troublesome for a select few, when compared to other forms of exercise such as running power walking is low-impact and minimally stressful on the body. Just start with a five minute walk and add two minutes every week!
#3 – More YOU time!
The time you spend walking is an opportunity for you to put on your headphones and jam out to your favorite tracks or listen to an audiobook.
#4 – The American Lifestyle
Americans take fewer steps than adults in Australia Switzerland and Japan which all have less issues with obesity and heart disease. Our lifestyle choices in America are not good for our bodies!
#5 – 50% Reduction of Select Diseases
High energy walking for 2-4 hours a week reduced the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome by 50 percent!
The 2008 CDC Physical Activity Guidelines recommends 30 minutes per day of moderate activity or 15 minutes per day of vigorous exercise. The BeLiteWeight team would like to challenge you to meet their standards!
The BeLiteWeight team would like to give a HUGE pat on the back to our dear patient Jose for his incredible progress with the Gastric Sleeve. ” I am so thankful for everything BeLiteWeight has done for me, a life changing experience.”

Sickle Cell Anemia News has recently released an article which reviewed the results of Obesity Surgery’s study, “Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Outcomes of Patients with Sickle Cell Disease: a Nationwide Inpatient Sample Analysis, 2004-2014.”
Although not seen as a definitive cure for the disease there were significant reductions in the rates of vaso-occlusive crises. These are more commonly known to those with the Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) disease as VOCs and are a painful reality of its effects.
The red blood cells of those with the SCD are shaped irregularly which causes the blood to be more receptive to blood clots and circulation problems. However with modern medicine and treatment those with SCD disease are shown to find success recovering and thriving after weight loss surgery.
Patients with SCD who underwent weight loss surgery did not have a higher risk of severe health complications and were less likely to experience VOCs afterwards!
Even with SCD the incredible human body and modern medicine are capable of great benefits to the quality of living! If you or someone you care about is personally affected with SCD and obesity we suggest reading the article below from Sickle Cell Anemia News:

Summer is just around the corner which means that the hot weather is on its way. One of the most important things we can do for our body when its hot outside is to stay hydrated. We tend to sweat a lot more in the heat, and we need to make up for the water that our body has lost. Not only does it give you more supple skin, but staying well hydrated is beneficial to your brain, heart, muscles, joints, and basically anything else that helps your body keep moving. Drinking water is great, but there are other options for making refreshing beverages that are not only fun for the summer, but very beneficial to your health.

- Ginger- 1-inch piece
- Turmeric -1/2 tsp
- Salt- a pinch

Carrot Apple Protein Smoothie
Here is a recipe for an easy and delicious smoothie that is high in protein and fiber. Protein helps to build and repair tissue, while fiber helps to help you feel fuller, longer.

- 1/2 cup cup apple sauce – (one container)
- 1/2 lime – juiced
- 1 tbsp pea protein

Pro tip: For an extra creamy smoothie, or if you don’t have a high-powered blender, lightly steaming the carrots for a few minutes will help them blend quickly and smoothly.

Cucumber Tomato Avocado Salad
There are also ways to stay hydrated that don't involve drinking. There are many foods that contain a high water content, like cucumbers, which can make a delicious meal that keeps you feeling refreshed despite the heat.

Everyone is talking about The Keto diet! Many celebrities swear that it is the fastest and most effective way to shed weight. The diet is essentially an extremely low carb regiment. By eliminating carbohydrates, your body goes into a natural state of ketosis where it breaks down the fats in your liver and produces ketones. This is a process called beta-oxidation, and the ketones are used to fuel your brain and body, instead of what your body normally uses for fuel, which is glucose, or sugar. Anyways, all that science means that your body is actually burning fat instead of using its other sources of energy!
There can be many other benefits to switching to a low carb diet too. Not only is it an effective method for weight loss, but it can also help prevent and maintain diabetes by controlling your blood sugar. Additionally, making this change can also improve brain functionality as well. Studies have shown that increased fatty acid intake can aid your concentration and focus. Keto benefits don’t stop there either! The diet has also been shown to be good for your skin and help clear up acne!
So what exactly is a Keto diet? When following a keto diet, it's good to avoid things with sugar, such as bread, fruit, or starchy foods like potatoes and beans. What you should be eating are things like meat, greens, seeds, nuts, and other fatty foods like milk and cheese. The majority of food to be consumed is fat, followed by protein and then a small number of carbs. Green, leafy vegetables are best, such as Kale and Spinach!
There are some potential side effects associated with the Keto diet. It is possible to experience cramping in the legs as well as constipation. In order to best prevent this, it is important to keep hydrated. When switching to a high fat, low carb diet the body goes through a transitional period where it adapts to burning fat instead of glucose. During that time you might feel tired but that is normal! Your energy levels will return to normal after your body has finished adapting to using a new fuel source.
It is truly fascinating the way the human body works and how what we eat directly affects our ability to function. Whether or not you're interested in trying the Keto diet, it's best to do your own research and formulate a plan that is best for you!
Sunshine summertime is almost indisputably the best time to be outdoors and enjoy the natural beauty of Earth. Take advantage of the good weather and go outside and get some exercise! Here are some great ideas that won't stress your knees but will get your bodies engine fired up!
Go Walk Around
Even if it just a few minutes extra each day just moving your body more than it is accustomed to will get your body processes started and burn more calories. Don't even worry about jogging or running, a brisk walk is more than enough to get your heart beat moving faster.
Swim at the Pool
While the sun is strong and the days are longer there are no good reasons why you shouldn't go out for a swim every few days! Swimming places your body in a zero gravity environment and is the perfect place to move your body without stressing the joints!
Find a Partner
Having an exercise buddy can be highly beneficial for two main reasons. First, you can hold each other accountable and boost the chances that you both will continue working out. Secondly, you have someone to enjoy the time with while you are exercising! And remember even going for a walk together counts 😉
Play a Game
Even if you are just throwing around a frisbee, or shooting some hoops, playing games makes exercise engaging and fun! BeLiteWeight wishes all of you a memorable and bright summer. Make hay while the sun shines and go outside and enjoy the weather!
