Stir fry is a simple and quick meal that the entire family can enjoy, but ordering your favorite stir fry from the nearby Chinese take-out restaurant might not be the best if you're trying to stay on a diet or wish to have a healthier lifestyle. Typically it will be full of bad fats, high in sodium and calories, but you can make stir fry right at home that is low in calories but still high in flavor, like this beef and broccoli recipe.

With a bit of broccoli, beef, onion, and about a ten minute cook time, this stir fry is perfect as a light lunch or an entire dinner meal because it uses low sodium soy sauce and whole grain rice. Most ingredients are probably in your kitchen right now and this particular recipe makes more than enough so that you'll have left overs for the next day.

Here is the full ingredient list:

  • 1/2 cups of waterLow Fat Beef & Broccoli at its Best! | BeLiteWeight | Weight Loss Recipes
  • Three tablespoons of divided cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • One pound of boneless, round steak cut into thin 3-inch strips
  • Two tablespoons of divided vegetable oil
  • Four cups of broccoli florets
  • One small onion
  • 1/3 cups of soy sauce, reduced sodium
  • Two tablespoons of brown sugar
  • One teaspoon of ground ginger
  • Cooked rice, whole grain

And here are the recipe instructions:

  • Combine two tablespoons of the cornstarch and water and garlic powder together in a large bowl until smoothed over. Add in the beef and toss a bit to coat everything evenly.
  • Put a large skillet or wok over medium to high heat and stir in the beef in about one tablespoon of oil until at desired cook time and taste. Remove from heat but keep it warm.
  • Next, stir in the broccoli and onions in the same skillet for about five minutes. Return the beef to the same pan and combine with the brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger, and what is left of the water and cornstarch. Stir for about two minutes. Once ready, serve stir fry over cooked rice.
